Classic Cabbage Rolls

To make these classic cabbage rolls, you will need the following ingredients:

  • 1 large head of cabbage
  • 1 pound ground meat of your choice (beef, pork, or a combination)
  • 1 cup cooked rice
  • 1 small onion, finely diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried dill
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 can tomato sauce

Follow these steps to prepare and cook the cabbage rolls:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Carefully remove the outer leaves of the cabbage, one by one, being careful not to tear them. Blanch the leaves in the boiling water for about 2 minutes, or until they are soft and pliable. Remove from the pot and set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, combine the ground meat, cooked rice, diced onion, minced garlic, paprika, dried dill, salt, and pepper. Mix well until all the ingredients are evenly incorporated.
  4. Take a cabbage leaf and place a small portion of the meat mixture in the center. Fold in the sides and roll up the leaf tightly, like a burrito. Repeat with the remaining cabbage leaves and meat mixture.
  5. Place the cabbage rolls seam side down in a baking dish. Pour the tomato sauce over the cabbage rolls, covering them completely.
  1. Cover the baking dish with foil and bake in the preheated oven for about 1 hour, or until the cabbage rolls are cooked through and tender.

Or, if you prefer to use a slow cooker:

  1. Follow steps 1-4 as described above.
  2. Place the cabbage rolls in the slow cooker and pour the tomato sauce over them.
  3. Cover the slow cooker and cook on low heat for 6-8 hours, or on high heat for 4-6 hours, until the cabbage rolls are cooked through and tender.
