Keeping Your Washing Machine’s Interior Clean

  • Clear distilled vinegar
  • A sponge or microfiber towel
  • A small bowl
  • Warm water
  1. Clean the Drum
Start with an empty washing machine. Take out any items left inside.
  2. Wipe the Door and Seal
After each use, wipe the rubber seal around the door with a microfiber towel, as dirt often accumulates here and can cause odors.
  3. Prepare the Vinegar Solution
Mix equal parts of warm water and white vinegar in a small bowl. This will be used to clean the detergent and fabric softener compartments.
  4. Clean the Detergent Compartments
Remove the detergent and fabric softener compartments and soak them in the vinegar mixture to dissolve any buildup. Use a towel to wipe them clean.
  5. Wipe Down the Drum
Pour two cups of white vinegar into the drum. Use a microfiber cloth to thoroughly wipe down the drum, focusing on visible dirt, residue, or mineral deposits.
  6. Run a Hot Cycle
Start a hot cycle with no clothes inside to rinse out the vinegar and any loosened dirt or debris.
  7. Clean the Exterior
While the washer runs, wipe down the exterior, including buttons, knobs, and the control panel.
  8. Final Rinse
After the hot cycle, open the door to check that the interior is clean and odor-free. If any vinegar scent lingers, run a quick rinse with plain water.

Regular Maintenance
For best results, clean your washing machine with vinegar every few months or whenever you notice odors or buildup. Regular upkeep helps extend the life of your washer, keeping your clothes fresh and clean.

Vinegar, an everyday household item, is incredibly effective for washing machine maintenance, helping you enjoy fresh, naturally clean laundry with minimal effort.
